Low cost Antenna Conduit
Let’s face it. Conduit is expensive. My need was for a 100ft run with a tap-off at 25ft. I wanted 4inch so there was plenty of capacity for whatever coax and low-voltage I wanted to run. Running 4inch schedule 40 with all the couplers was going to run over $1000.
Then I got an idea. I didn’t need the psi strength, just a way to run my cables underground. So why not 4inch flexible drain pipe?
You’ll see from the images that I dug a shallow trench, used standard corrugated drain pipe and fittings, and came up with a conduit system complete with a rope pull.
- T’s at both ends so that that any water filtration would have a drain.
- A T for the 30ft tap-off.
- Elbows on the ends facing downward to help deflect water.
- 4 inch flat drain cover flaps to plug the ends. Sure these won’t keep out bugs or even mice, but it’s a fair deterrent.
- 200 ft of poly rope pulls tied to each end. Enough to pull though without pulling to rope out so I can shuttle to rope back and forth to pull cables.
Total cost approximately $150.
The head end is terminated under my wall breach box. (Another project)
I used some bright green spray paint that bonds to plastic. This helps make it visible in near it but blend in if not.
At the far end I set a waterproof box next to a ground rod so I can set inline coax ground connection.
